Hotel De Savoya was built on the same space belonging to the urban ensemble of the Citadel Quarter. An old building had collapsed, therefore something new had to be considered, an idea that has been around ever since 2007. The story of Hotel De Savoya begins right about then, with modern urban planning and sketching. This came as a result of the freeing of the citadel from Ottoman domination by the Austrian army led by Eugeniu De Savoya.
Our quarter has been redesigned with all sorts of markets and streets leading straight out, perfectly aligned buildings enriched with classy and flamboyant decorations. Defining every aspect of the Vienna baroque movement which has introduced Timisoara as “Little Vienna” and kept its reputation to this day. But at the end of the 19th century, new styles were to be discovered, such as Art Nouveau, Secession and eclectic. This way, the Citadel Quarter offers much more than military artifacts, being a coherent urban ensemble in which valuable monuments mean much more than architecture, bringing up European connection.
18th of October 1716 is the day we celebrate victory, as Prince Eugeniu de Savoya-Carignano enters the gates of Timisoara. We are hereby celebrating the most important day in our town’s history, which meant access to civilization and development. The name of our hotel had to go without saying, being an homage to Timisoara’s most important character. The building was finished in 2011 but few more years were necessary in order to become a gorgeous boutique hotel, as it was initially conceived.
Leaving Hotel De Savoya you can find the most attractive things just one walk away. Enjoy the comfort of a lovely stay and benefit from being a tourist in our homey Timisoara.
